    How to communicate a picture

Whether you are reviewing one of your own photographs or some one else's, there are sure rules of thumb that should be followed. The steps below offer a step by step coming to reviewing photographs and possibly gift advice.

    1. Categorize the piece to a single type: portrait, landscape, nature, wildlife, action...etc. Yes there is a unlikeness in the middle of nature and wildlife photography. The point is to narrow it down to a sure type. There are distinct expectations for distinct types.

    Underwater Photographer

    2. Was lighting used effectively? distinct lighting techniques are used for distinct types of photography. Is the shot too dark? Is there washout (whites are too bright)? Was indirect lighting used if it was a portrait? Direct lighting on portraits can flatten facial features.

    3. Rule what the branch of the photograph is. Viewers should not have to guess what the branch is. If the branch is not clear then there is not much point in going very deep in the review.

    4. Notice the techniques that were used to bring out the subject. Was a narrow depth of field used to blur the background and foreground while keeping the branch in focus? Was the branch spirited during the shot? Were techniques used to show motion?

There are many techniques that can be used to bring concentration to the subject. Are any single techniques noticeable? Should a distinct technique have been used?

    5. See if there is whatever in the shot that unnecessarily distracts from the subject. Is there something in the background that draws your eye away from the subject? Photographers should make sure that there are no distractions in the viewfinder before releasing the shutter.

    6. The final step in reviewing a photo is to build a personal opinion. Do you like the picture? Why or why not? If it is your shot, what should you do differently next time... If anything? If it is man else's, would you have taken a distinct approach?

If man wants you to characterize their photograph, do so. Give them your honest opinion, with constructive annotation if necessary.

The more photographs that you characterize the best ready you will be for distinct photographic opportunities.

iLCP Voices Behind the Camera with Flip Nicklin Video Clips. Duration : 0.90 Mins.

Widely regarded as the premier whale photographer of the world, Flip Nicklin, a National Geographic photographer and member of the iLCP, has more than 5500 dives under his belt. His ability to free dive to depths of up to 90 feet allows him to swim near enough to record whale behavior without interrupting it. Flip Nicklin was born with both diving and photography in his blood. His father, Chuck, is a diver and underwater cinematographer, who taught his sons to become scuba divers. At the age of fourteen, he was helping his father teach people to dive off of the coast of Southern California, in La Jolla. His first contact with National Geographic Society came in 1976 when he was signed on as a deck hank and diving assistant for a three-month shoot with photographers Bates Littlehales and Jonathan Blair. Everyday he shot with the photographers, a life-long dream for him. With the help of his mentors, two of his images were published, along with theirs in the Geographic. The publication of these two shots, began his career as an underwater photographer. He went on to shoot sharks and whales for the Geographic centennial issue. Eight years after his first publication, he had become the marine mammal photographer for the National Geographic. www.ilcp.com http

    History of the Camera

Early cameras of the 16th and 17th century were able to task images onto paper or glass but the study of capturing, processing and printing the images took many more years. Up until the 17th century, scientists believed that light was composed basically of the 'white' that is perceived by the human eye. It took the explore done by sublime physicist Isaac Newton to witness that light is legitimately composed of a spectrum of colors. While he made a big contribution to the study of optics (that is at the core of camera advances) with this discovery, Newton did not legitimately have anything to do with camera improvement per se.

The early camera that first became a phenomenon was a miniature more than a pinhole camera and can be traced back to 1558. It was called the Camera Obscura. The Camera Obscura was seen as a drawing tool for a clearer and realistic portrayal of objects. It was in the early 19th century that an invention named the Camera Lucida was introduced by Cambridge scientist William Hyde Wollaston that consisted of an optic expedient that could help an artist view a distant scene or person or object on a paper exterior that he or she was using to draw. In other words the artist gets to view a superimposed image of a branch on paper and this image could be effectively used to endeavor to draw, trace or paint it. Both the Camera Obscura and the Camera Lucida provided an image that was temporary, which could not be lastingly captured on to paper for later reference.

    Underwater Photographer

Studies however continued well into the 1800's on how to legitimately capture the image onto material. It was during this time, colse to 1822 that French researcher Joseph Nicephore Niepce, created the first photo by using paper that was coated with a chemical. The image would not stay constantly on the paper and would disappear after a short while. Even so, despite the short-lived nature of the image, the conception of photography was born with this experiment and paved the way for additional study and improvement in this field.

Capturing images to hold them longer and constantly became the next big quest for researchers. Other Frenchman Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre partnered with Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1829, to organize the process of creating permanent photographs. Joseph Niépce died in 1833 but Daguerre continued with the work and succeeded in 1837 after many long years of experimentation. The process of capturing photographic images that would not fade away, introduced by Daguerre came to be known as the 'daguerreotype'.

The word 'photography' was coined by scientist Sir John F.W. Herschel in 1839 and it is legitimately is derived from two Greek words 'photos' meaning light and 'graphein' meaning draw.

A slightly more advanced version of the daguerreotype called the Calotype process that makes many copies possible using the negative and obvious method became available very soon after. In fact, it was during the 1840's that the use of photographic images in advertisements first started and cameras made their mark on the power of optic communication. It was not much later, in the 1850's that photographers first started experimenting with underwater photography of seascapes.

Up until 1850, the process of capturing images was cumbersome requiring upto half an hour of light exposure. The discovery made in 1851 by Frederick Scott Archer was a blessing since the new method termed the Collodion process called for just 2-3 seconds of light exposure to capture an image.

Prior to 1871, photographers went through a improvement process where they had to coat the plate with wet chemical each and every time and process the image immediately. With the invention the gelatin dry plate silver bromide process by Richard Leach Maddox, negatives did not have to be advanced immediately. This was an leading discovery since up until then the captured image had to be processed instantly.

Kodak created in 1888 by George Eastman has been a modern day pioneer of sorts in cameras and photography for the masses. George Eastman and the scientists who worked with him at Kodak advanced the photographic film in 1889 and made it available in rolls for the mass use of consumers. An leading milestone in our entertainment and communication history was the improvement of transparent roll film by Eastman. This improvement led to Other key invention - the petition photo camera by Thomas Edison's in 1891.

    -->Modern Times

During the 20th century the pace of technology improvement in cameras and photography continued at an accelerated pace much like many other key technology developments. While any key inventions like car, telephone and the gramophone record happened in the later half of the 19th century, it is the last 100 years that saw major developmental work in many areas of communications technology and as well as in other fields - Tv, aircrafts, Pcs, digital technology, digital cameras, mobile phones, fax machines and the internet, to name a few.

In the case of the camera, the developments simplified the whole process of photography, manufacture it accessible to one and all at affordable prices and the camera industry denizens of our times made it into a mass phenomenon. The first mass use camera became available at the turn of the 20th century and can be traced back to the year 1900. There are hundreds of models of cameras available today both for the amateur as well as the pro and the camera is an leading part of any family's repertoire of must have gadgets.

-->20th century chronology in the history of the camera:

    1913: 35 mm still-camera created

1927: The flash bulb introduced by general electric Co. (The conception of camera flash existed much before but was based on the use of a flash light powder that was invented by German researchers)

1935- 1941: Kodak starts marketing Kodachrome film and subsequently launches Kodacolor negative film. Canon released the Hansa Canon in 1936, the first 35mm focal-plane shutter camera.

1948: The conception of the Polaroid camera is introduced in the market. American scientist Edwin Land advanced the process for instant photography. Later Polaroid Corporation advanced the 'instant color' film colse to 1963.

1957: Frenchman Jaques Yves Cousteau invented the first waterproof 35mm camera for underwater photography named the Calypso Phot. The actual camera was advanced by the Belgian airplane technical designer Jean de Wouters based on the blueprint and suggestions given to him by Cousteau.

1972: The electronic camera that does not wish film was created and patented by Texas Instruments. This is however not the same as a digital camera though you don't wish film in digital cameras as well. The open of the digital camera is still many years away.

1975: Kodak's experiments with digital imaging kicked off colse to the mid seventies but it will take Other 20 years before a digital camera for the home buyer shop is launched.

1978 - 1980: Asian players like Konica and Sony begin to make their mark. The 'point and shoot' automated focus camera is launched by Konica while Sony starts talking about the camcorder and demonstrates a prototype.

1981: Sony launches a commercially available electronic still camera. Similar to the 1972 invention by Texas Instruments, the Sony electronic camera came with a mini disc on which images were recorded and stored. The recorded images could be later printed or viewed on a monitor using a reader device.

1985: Digital processing technology makes its entry. Digital imaging and processing is introduced by Pixar.

1986: The camera industry becomes even more buyer focused and taps the fun and voyage connotations behind camera usage, with the open of the conception of the disposable single use cameras. Fuji is credited with the improvement of this concept.

Also in 1986 - 1987, Kodak started taking giant strides in digital development. Digital means, the photographic image is divided into tiny units of dots or squares known as pixels. Pixels are the programmable units of an image that can be processed by computers. Each image could be made up of millions of pixels. The use of pixels in digital technology allows storing large volumes of pixels to deliver high definition print quality.

1990: Kodak introduces Photo Cd's. It is a theory of storing photographic images on Cd and then viewing them on a computer. With this improvement the user-friendly coming of the camera industry began to take concrete shape.

1991: Kodak introduces a digital camera targeted at professionals and journalists. Kodak is credited with the invention of a pixel based camera technology known to us as the digital camera. Digital cameras don't use film similar to their predecessor electronic cameras but the storage method is entirely separate and the final photo is of much higher resolution. In a digital camera photos are recorded and stored in digital form. This digital data can be transferred to a computer and processed for printing. Kodak and Canon are well known digital camera manufacturers and there are also any other key brands as well.

1994: The Apple QuickTake camera, a home use digital camera is launched. This is followed by the open of a clutch of home use digital cameras by Casio, Kodak and others in quick succession during 1995 -'96.

    -->The digital era:

The improvement of digital camera technology is considered to be connected to the improvement of Tv and Video technology. The theory of transmission and recording of audio-visual images using digital electrical impulses finds use in camera imaging as well.

Through the 1990's the developments continued in camera technology, the focus now shifting to the field of digital imaging which is where the hereafter lies. Use-friendly features like software that can download digital images directly from camera onto home computers for storing and sharing on the internet is the new norm in the shop place.

The camera, the computer, the software industry and the worldwide web are today irrevocably interlinked to empower the user in experiencing the benefits of camera usage to full potential. The innovation that sparked many an invention in the camera industry found its way into the digital world as well and continued among digital camera manufacturers. during 2001, the Kodak and Microsoft partnership ensured that digital camera manufacturers could use the power of photo change Protocol (Ptp) approved through Windows. The digital photo contact is a key optic driver in the Internet era. Many of Kodak digital camera models with EasyShare capabilities are compatible with Windows Xp. The Kodak EasyShare software enables users to change digital camera pictures directly from camera to their computers and then print the pictures or even email them.

Manufacturers in a connected industry like the printing industry have adapted their products to be in sync with the images created by digital cameras. Cell phone manufacturers have tied up with digital camera manufacturers to organize new age camera phones in up-to-date years. These camera phones can capture images and share the images through the cell phone.

Among the 21st century digital developments are the advanced goods offerings from digital cameras manufacturers and these are sure to occupy an leading place in the ensuing history of camera development. For instance, the Kodak pro Dcs Pro Slr/c is a high-end digital camera and the Kodak website calls the Dcs Pro Slr models the most feature-rich digital cameras on the market. It has an image sensor that can cope 13.89 million pixels and this makes it the highest resolution digital camera available. High resolution determines the sharpness or level of information in photographic images. This is just a note of the capabilities that digital technology places in a user's hands. Digital camera sales figures for 2003 show that the two key players Kodak and Canon have recorded impressive growth.

-->What does the hereafter holds for camera users?

The features offered by digital cameras can be quite mind-boggling for the average user and pretty curious for most pros. Four key ongoing camera developments that are likely to additional enhance the process of photography:

    1. Greater resolution from even the simplest, low cost camera models

    2. Usage in any type of lighting conditions,

    3. Compatibility over a range of software, hardware and image types

    4. Rich colors and tone

While the higher-end digital evolution continues, the prices of the straightforward camera have crashed to such an extent that even children and teens are proud owners of straightforward cameras. The camera and photography interest starts young and this creates a truly large audience base for the camera industry.

And throughout history, it is evident that the endeavor of researchers and developers has been to make the camera available to a wide section of society. Without camera technology and photography, the other key developments of cinema and Tv would have been delayed and what a boring place the world would have been without Tv and films!!

A friend, and fine underwater photographer, had an amazing interaction with one particular, large adult dolphin who seemed delighted to swim with him all morning! Although this vid is only 4 minutes of footage from that day, I watched this one dolphin stay at our friends side for over an hour! I hope you will get a sense of the magic and inter-species connection we all shared. Aloha!

The Best Digital Camera For The Money

Nobody as a matter of fact wants, or needs the best of anything. It doesn't matter, either it's digital cameras, automobiles, homes, or jet airplanes. What we as a matter of fact want and expect, is value for our money. If I'm going to spend 0 for a camera, then I better get 0 worth of features and capability from that camera. If I spend 00 on a camera, then I better get 00 worth back as well. If you consequent a few easy rules, you'll see how easy it is to get the best camera your money can buy.

Acclaimed science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon was notable for a consolidate of adages known as Sturgeons Laws. My favorite, and the one most relevant to our argument is, "Ninety percent of all things is crap." It's simple, direct and brutally honest. It also as a matter of fact helps narrow down our search. If the camera your looking at is not on at least one top ten list, then drop it from your search. If it doesn't have at least a four star chronicle from someone, then drop if off your list. There are so many cameras to choose from these days, there's as a matter of fact no need to settle for anyone less then the best.

The second step, and a tiny more exertion intensive, is the trial run phase. You need to try out as many of the cameras on your now very short list (thanks to Theodore) as possible. Spend a day, and blitz your popular camera stores. Go to two or three, and just annoy and pepper the sales staff with as many questions and requests as you can. If you go while off hours, you should have fullness of time and space to try out all the cameras you want. See if you can cajole them into letting you take a few home to try out. After this exercise, your short list should be as a matter of fact short. Maybe even a list of 1.

Advanced Underwater Photography: Techniques for Digital Photographers Best

Advanced Underwater Photography: Techniques for Digital Photographers Overview

Designed for photographers who already have strong diving skills and understand basic photographic techniques, this reference defines what advanced underwater photography is while teaching the skills necessary to create professional-quality images. Opening with a quick overview of the basics—such as exposure, focus, subject selection, and composition—the author then expands on each of these topics, showing the techniques pros use to achieve truly stunning images. A major factor in advancing beyond the basic level of underwater photography is moving from a point-and-shoot or semi-adjustable camera to using a full-featured digital SLR camera. The myriad equipment choices available when making this transition—including cameras, lenses, underwater housings, and the lighting units designed to be used with them—are explained, as are their respective advantages and shortcomings. Because both beginning and advanced underwater photographers can have equipment-related issues, a trouble-shooting section is included to ensure that minor equipment problems won’t ruin a costly dive trip.

Of course if the above seems like to much work for you slackers out there, here's my short list of great cameras that are all money well spent. In the under 0 category, the Canon PowerShot A570Is. It's a easy point and shoot with 4x zoom lens, image stabilization, and Canon reliability. For the portability minded ultra compact FaceBook crowd, you can't go wrong with the Canon PowerShot Sd1000 Digital Elph. Slightly less image capability then the A570Is, and slightly more expensive, but a very easy traveler. other popular compact of mine is the Olympus Stylus 790Sw. The only waterproof, shockproof, dust proof, and ice proof camera I know.
